How Will Berlusconi Win Again in Italy?
After a long period of criticism against the Italian Prime Minister, the President of the Chamber of Deputies Gianfranco Fini quit Berlusconi’s party and founded another parliamentarian group "Futuro e libertà per l'Italia" (Future and Freedom for the Italy.) Mr.Fini, who has been a long and very loyal ally to Berlusconi, knows his group's vote could be critical for the future of the Italian government.
In other words, Italy will approach an election for a new government very soon.
It’s quite clear that the only one that is getting ready to win another election is Mr.Berlusconi. How will he win? Using his football team Ac Milan.
Indeed, in July - when Mr. Fini's future wasn't clear - Berlusconi stated about his football team: “Our list of players is appropriate to compete with any other team." It meant: no extra money to buy new players.
But when it was clear of the new position - against him - of the President of the Chamber, Berlusconi no longer enjoys a stable majority at the lower House after House Speaker Gianfranco Fini ended a 16-year alliance with him and created a new party, then, somewhere, Ac Milan found the money to buy two international strikers - Swedish star Ibrahimovic and Brazilian Robinho. Sheena Smith already wrote about Ibra's move from Barça to Ac Milan.
Why is Ac Milan so important for Mr.Berlusconi's political life?
Because in Italy, there are 11,4 million of people that are fans of Ac Milan, and at the last election in 2008, People of Freedom collected about 13 million votes. If Mr.Berlusconi didn’t do anything for his football team, Ac Milan fans could use their vote against his party.
Yesterday's Ibrahimovic and Robinho debut with Ac Milan against Cesena wasn’t lucky, because the Italian giant team lost the match. And, naturally, Mr.Berlusconi declared that Milan lost because of a left wing referee.
Berlusconi is already well into his political campaign.
