How Many Sides of Your Mouth Can YOU Talk Out Of?
Did you read what the President said?
"The problems we inherited were far worse than most inside and out of government had expected; the recession was deeper than most inside and out of government had predicted. Curing those problems has taken more time and a higher toll than any of us wanted."
Dammit, I am SICK and TIRED of Obama blaming Bush for the country's economic problems. He's been president for MORE than TWO YEARS now and he's had PLENTY of time to...
Obama didn't say that?
Then who did?
RONALD REAGAN BLAMED HIS PREDECESSOR FOR HIS ECONOMIC WOES? In his 1983 STATE of the UNION? But didn't HE become president a full TWO YEARS EARLIER???
The modern-day GOP says THAT'S UNACCEPTABLE! Obama should "MAN UP" and ACCEPT FULL BLAME for the country's problems.
But, oh yeah... I just remembered.
Like everything else the modern-day GOP says... that's bullshit.
As I've said many times before, one would think that the teabaggers are unaware of these recent little inventions — the Internet, videotape and audiotape — that make it very easy for someone to prove when they're being scumsucking hypocrites.
A few examples? OK.
Tuesday, a spokeswoman for Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) made this comment when someone pointed out "Bush did it too" in the "Fast and Furious" scandal.
"This far into the investigation, throwing out the 'Bush Administration did it too defense' reeks of desperation," she said.
She was referring to a story that shows the Bush Administration had its OWN problem with Gun Walking.
So, Republicans don't LIKE it when you blame something on a former president. Except when THEY do it.
Last night, Lawrence O'Donnell took GOP hopeful Herman Cain to task for dodging the Vietnam War.
The conservative snot rag "The Daily Caller" didn't care for THAT at ALL!
SEE HOW EASY? If LIBERALS do it? BAD!
When CONSERVATIVES do it? GOOD!
Nothing new about this.
The blame-Bush card is losing credibility since he will have been out of office four years by the time the 2012 election rolls around.
And Clinton has been out of office HOW long?
David Archer in the hypocritical Daily Caller made this statement back in August 2010:
To paraphrase Tolstoy: the Democratic electoral machine is irrefutable. It has devised a complete explanation. Whatever ails America is Bush’s fault and will remain so as long as rhetorically convenient. Indeed, it’s not unusual for the more hyperbolic Bush critics to compare him to the devil himself.
Horror! Telling the truth that problems caused by a predecessor were, in fact, caused by the predecessor, and that 2-1/2 years is a drop in the bucket compared to the 8 years it took for Bush to fuck everything up.
(And spare me "the Democrats controlled Congress from 2006." Bush held the Veto pen and Democrats did not have a veto-proof majority. Anything that became law, became law with the signature of George W. Bush. So that argument, offered all-too-frequently, is — as pointed out earlier in this column — bullshit.)
So, Republicans say it's WRONG to blame a former president for a current president's problems.
Therefore, we should just forget that during the Bush administration --
...even though he inherited a 4.2% unemployment rate, a budget surplus, and on the heels of 23 million jobs created in the Clinton Administration. Anyone want to compare those numbers to the numbers Obama inherited?
And that's not all!
And it wasn't just Bush!
Reagan blamed Carter for the country's economic woes... in his 1982 State of the Union...
"To understand the State of the Union, we must look not only at where we are and where we're going but where we've been. The situation at this time last year was truly ominous."
