Documentary: Eliot Spitzer Flew Too Close To The Vulva
This was about 500 news cycles ago, but there was a time when Eliot Spitzer temporarily supplanted Bill Clinton, John Edwards, Mark Foley, and Larry Craig as the go-to sex joke. Getting caught with a female escort? Client No. 9? That Bill Cowher-like jawline? Ah, now it's all coming back to you.
Documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney (of Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room fame and has one to be released soon about lobbyist Jack Abramoff) is collaborating with Spitzer on a new joint about his fall from grace. Hey know who else had a fall from grace in Greek mythology?
"And the only metaphor I can think of is Icarus. Those whom the gods would destroy, they make all powerful."
He really was Icarus. After all, he flew on borrowed wings to court cherubim which were presumably paid by the hour. And in the documentary, right after Spitzer drops that line, there's a shot of a magazine cover with the headline: IS ELIOT SPITZER UNTOUCHABLE?
For a fee ... no he's not.
