Debt Limit Without a Cause - Reality TV
Much like the American drama film, Rebel Without a Cause, as directed by Nicholas Ray in 1955, the White House is attempting to direct the passage of a bill concerning the debt-limit. The film depicts delinquents in urban slums. The plot is about a rebellious teenager at a new school. He meets a new girl, disobeys his parents and defies the local school bullies. For its time, the film was a truly novel portrayal of the moral decay of the youth in America.
In his role as Jim Stark, James Dean reluctantly gets into a knight fight with a man who calls him a “Chicken.” Dean wins the fight by subduing his antagonist by holding a switchblade up to his jugular. Both men only get slightly injured during the knife fight. After the fight is over, the mob challenges Dean to a “Chickie Run” with both now behind the wheel of a stolen cars racing towards a ravine near Griffith Observatory. The rules of the game are: the first one who jumps out of the car loses and is deemed a “chicken.” This game ends tragically for the antagonist when his jacket gets caught on the car door and his car goes over the cliff.
