Arizona Shooting: Preemptive Attacks to Come From the Right
The horrific attack that sent congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords to the hospital in critical condition will be the subject of heated debates in the days to come. It will resurrect the discussion about gun control, given the high profile of the congresswoman and Arizona's chief US District judge, John M. Roll, who was killed in the shooting. The five other dead, among whom a nine-year-old girl and the 13 other wounded will, to no surprise, get little coverage.
So far the reactions, mostly circumspect, have been bipartisan, and all words of compassion and wisdom. President Obama called Governor Jane Brewer of Arizona and offered “the full resources of the Federal Government.” House Majority Leader Eric Cantor declared that all legislative actions are being postponed “so that we can take whatever action necessary in light of today's tragedy”.
But all that happened on Saturday, when Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck were off the airwaves, enjoying the week and certainly reflecting on the subjects they will cover next.
The Arizona shooting will perfectly fit the bill for them and the other fiery conservative hosts starting this Sunday morning. Feeling the outrage and anticipating renewed calls for tougher gun control laws, they will preemptively launch attacks aimed at the proponents of such laws.
They will distort, place out of context declarations or, worse, make up facts and stories to warrants their attacks. That’s what they have always done, and this time again, with a bunch of pet politicians echoing their words, they’ll lead what will soon be another massive attack on the Left.
