Rick Perry, the long-serving governor of Texas, recently made a remark that suggested Texas might secede from the union. Having just escaped from that sorry state of the union, I offer Governor Rick the familiar advice to avoid getting hit by the door. This blog was originally intended as a journal of what it's like to escape from a state of distorted values to a place where things might be better. But I arrived in Florida to find that, as in Texas, the wingnut faction is in nearly full control. Essentially, there's no transition to report on. Nevertheless, I remain a retired editorial writer who still occasionally has something to say. Now and again, I'll say it here. Richard Baker
