Trendy Dining Hits the High Seas
Celebrity Cruise Lines newest ship, the Equinox is sets sail on April 26th, and will offer cruisers several new features.
One of the most interesting additions is the restaurant "Qsine"> by Jacques Van Staden, the VP of Culinary Operations for Celebrity Cruises.
Nothing is traditional about the restaurant. The wine list will be shown on an iPod touch, many of which will be organic, contemporary wines. The main menu is a backlit slab and the dessert menu is a cube made of paper that guests will unfold to see the items. There are no entrees or appetizers. You just order off the menu, as much food as you'd like.
Examples of the unique items being served are sushi lollipops served on a stick, a trio of three cold soups served in test tubes with a straw, popcorn fish and chips served in a red and white popcorn box and a make-your-own fresh guacamole with a stone mortar and pestle.
This is a specialty restaurant, not included in the cruise fare. The price to dine is $30 per person.
Are you willing to pay for these specialty restaurants, or do you feel like the airlines that cruise companies are just finding ways to nickle and dime consumers?
