What Would Jesus Say About the Debt Ceiling?
Last week it was the debt ceiling debacle, before that it was the massacre in Norway, before that it was high as the sky gas prices, and before that it was more casualties in the War on Terror. By now, you get the drift of where this is going. As tragic as these events are, we must not be swayed by the negative emotions and the bad reporting of it all.
As Christians we have to remember that we are in the world, but not of the world. Although my heart grieves for it all, I don’t have to accept it for my family, because I’ve laid claim to the rich inheritance that is mine through my Heavenly Father, and you can do the same. For this reason, I will not be swayed by the events of this world, because I am a citizen of Heaven.
President Obama, Ben Bernanke, and John Boehner can all get together and say, "If we don't pass a deal, you could lose your job." "If we don't pass a deal, you won't be able to afford your mortgage." I choose not to be moved by what they say. I've never met any of them, and why would I believe them over God who knew me before I was formed in my mother's womb, who knit my DNA together so intricately? How could they possibly know the plans God has for me?
The Word says, "God shall supply all of my needs according to HIS riches and glory." Not according to the U.S. government's riches and glory, because we all know that handout is not guaranteed, very limited, and changes often. Please make no mistake; America is still a great nation, however, it's not above the things God has for you.
Psalm 91:1,5-7 says, "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. You will not fear the terror of night (i.e. stock market crash), nor the arrow that flies by day (i.e. lack of jobs), nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness (i.e. terror attacks), nor the plague that destroys at midday (i.e. rising interest rates). A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you."
Choose this day where you will dwell: in the shelter of the Most High or the shelter of the government.
