The Chicago Auto Show opens to the public on Friday, February 11th but we had a chance to get a sneak peak at the brand new, 2012 Fiat 500, also known as Cinquecento in Italian. The Fiat 500 has not yet been released for sale in the United States, the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of $15,500 for the base model and $17,500 for the sport version.
Designed for the individual who craves individualism and Italian style, the new 2012 Fiat 500 comes has a 1.4-liter engine, four cylinder engine, 101 horsepower, delivers power and fuel efficiency. With the option of three models, 14 exterior colors and 14 unique seat color and material combinations, the Fiat 500 is highly customizable; a perfect choice for the young-at-heart urban dweller who desires personalization.
Spending a fair amount of time examining the interior of the Fiat 500, I felt that the vehicle was spacious for its size, large enough to accommodate up to four passengers. The dashboard is contemporary, accented in the same color as the exterior. The sport version of the vehicle comes with a manual transmission.
The Fiat 500 has seven airbags that come standard, including drivers side knee air bags, and received a five star review for safety in Europe. Although the vehicle has not yet been safety tested in the United States, the executives at Chrysler informed me that they safety tested the vehicle against other Chrysler / Dodge vehicles and that the Fiat 500 performed well.
Another appealing functionality of the Fiat 500 is the state-of-the-art MultiAir technology that reduces emissions while improving fuel economy and power. The vehicle is able to achieve 10 percent greater fuel efficiency and power while decreasing CO2 emissions up to 10 percent compared to engines without the system. The world’s first Fully Variable Valve Actuation (FVVA) system on a production engine.
