The American Idol Top 11 Had a Rough Night
The American Idol top 11 took the stage last night. For most of them, they needn't have bothered. Usually at this point in the competition the claws start to come out and those wanting to make it to the end give it their all, that's the joy of watching these performances. When they take their moment on stage and own it and create something unforgettable, it is magical to watch. However, most of the performances last night were completely forgettable.
This week's mentor was Miley Cyrus, and why anyone would think she has the ability to mentor anyone is beyond me. She is an ok artist who has huge teenybopper appeal, but let's be serious here folks, she's no Kelly Clarkson, Pink or Fergie. Despite being overall disappointing, there were a couple of stand outs last night, while some early favorites continue to lose ground.
My top picks:
Crystal Bowersox: Regained her #1 spot with a serious kick butt performance of Janis Joplin's "Bobby McGee." She is loosening up and getting better each week which is hard to do when you start out amazing. I agree with Simon, that Pink did a phenomenal rendition of this song and Crystal's was just as good.
Siobhan Magnus: Fell a bit this week for me. She covered Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" and it was good. She hit one of her outrageous high notes, but that was truly the highlight of the song. Nothing else about it screamed 'I am your next idol' I am expecting her to pick it back up next week as we already know she is capable of so much more.
Didi Benami: She did Linda Rondstadt's "You're No Good," and truly, the lyrics were kind of spot on. I am again going to agree with Simon on this one. The lyrics were quite ironic. I didn't hear any of her quirky original tone, and I am hoping she pushes her way back up next week.Continued on the next page
