KidVid: Wow! It’s Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! – Fly Us to the Moon (DVD)
If you’re reading this, you should not watch Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! (unless your MD has prescribed extremely mellow meds), but you probably know that already. Nick Jr. is the home of this delightful, curvy, pastel world inhabited by curvy, pastel creatures. Wuzzleburg is a great place for preschoolers to spend some time, but for adults…well, problemo grande.
Of course, most grown-ups aren’t attracted to DVDs which include coloring and activity sheets as one of the bonuses. So get the preschoolers to settle down, and if they’re very, very good, let them watch Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! – Fly Us to the Moon. It is the height of unsophistication—ideal for the little ones.
There are six Wubbzy cartoons on Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! – Fly Us to the Moon, and they are all simple, gentle, and non-violent. The stories have morals and the morals support social skills. Wubbzy and his friends, Widget, Waldo, and Daizy, are excellent guides through the maze of “yes” and “no” through which preschoolers travel.
These four relentlessly cheerful characters visit the moon, pretend to be aliens, and try to fool each other—all the while delivering messages about telling the truth and brushing one’s teeth (and totally not impersonating the tooth fairy). In other words, it’s safe to leave the kids alone in front of the set when they’re watching Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! – Fly Us to the Moon (or not, depending on your children’s temperaments).
As for that “problemo grande”…adults are cautioned that children who watch Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! – Fly Us to the Moon may repeat “No problemo” many more times than anyone wants to hear it. Widget, the handyperson of the group, uses the phrase every time she’s ready to create a solution, and these guys need lots of solutions. Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! is broadcast in over 60 countries; undoubtedly it has adult fans who enjoy watching with or without the company of children. My point? It’s a great show for little kids, if a little too sweet for me, and parents should be aware of the programs their children watch.
If you buy Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! – Fly Us to the Moon for your kids, be sure to watch it with them—at least once. (In Spanish-speaking broadcasts, do you think Widget says , “No problem”?) Release date: November 16, 2010.
