Ke$ha's SNL Performance Better Than Expected, Not As Bad As Reported
The usual recriminations abound: she's a low-rent version of Lady Gaga (who's a low-rent version of Madonna, Grace Jones, Dale Bozzio, so on and so forth), she stole her costumes and stage act, to basic complaints about her as a person, blah, blah, blah. As if any performer isn't borrowing from those before them — it's the nature of art.
All this smacks of hatin' on a performer who did a far better job than people expected. IMHO, she did a pretty good job. From her A capella beginning of her hit single "Tik Tok," to her synchronized choreography while SINGING live (take that Ashlee Simpson), to her spirited performance, I was impressed. Ke$ha's second performance of her latest single, "Your Love Is My Drug," was kind of fun too, but sadly, she ruined it by talking.
Now, before all you haters start hating, I don't like Ke$ha. She says stupid things, does stupid things and her songs have a stupid message - however - I am not going to hate on her performance for those reasons alone. She actually improved on my opinion of her with her performance. Ke$ha worked it, she hit her notes, she gave a lively, uninhibited, fun performance. She may still be a vapid, shallow tool, but she did a good job. So, Ke$ha, keep up the good work, but keep your mouth shut so no one knows how annoying you are.
