Trent Reznor and Mariqueen Maandig Release New Video
NIN's Trent Reznor got married last October to singer Mariqueen Maandig, and a part of my soul died. That's the bad news, but the good news is, they've teamed up to collaborate on a new project: How to Destroy Angels. As you would expect, the sound is dark, moody and has the classic Trent Reznor electronic thumbprint, but it's also a departure from the NIN sound and this is an exciting new direction for Trent.
Before the release of their new single and video for "The Space In Between" I'd never heard West Indian Girl's Mariqueen sing. While the video is disturbing and somewhat hard to decipher the song itself is pretty interesting and Mariqueen has a haunting quality to her voice.
Trent had hinted he was working on a new project through his Twitter account a while back, and How to Destroy Angels does have a website, a MySpace page but there isn't much else to go on. Another clue linking Reznor to this project (besides appearing in the video above with Mariqueen) is the band name, also the name of the band Coil's first single. Trent has often referred to Coil as having an influence on his sound, and Trent likes to play around with his fans by leaving clues and being obtuse with information.
Whatever the case, any new music Trent Reznor's involved with has my attention. Stay tuned for more info, rumor has it How To Destroy Angels will be releasing a 6 song EP this summer.
