Promo Review: Benya feat. Emma Lock - 'Loved to Be' (Original Mix) (InfraProgressive)
Release date: 29th August 2011
2011 has been a fantastic year so far for Benya (Ben Bording), racking up massive points on the EDM scoreboard with the delectable 'Titan' on InfraProgressive back in April.
Teaming up with Emma Lock on vocals for this latest release on the label, 'Loved to Be' has all of the atmospheric delight we have come to expect from this fantastic producer with moody undertones and an indie kick.
The intro lifts off on a strikingly staunch kick-drum and rubbery snare combination, bringing in top-end percs and ominous oscillating pads before the bass kicks in.
Not domineering, the bass has just enough wallop to add fire to the sound but is paired to perfection with Emma Locks vocal, pumping smoothly alongside the wistful melancholia caressing your ears. If you have ever heard Swedish rock band the Cardigans (and if not why not!) the vocal melody reminds me of Nina Persson's soothing serenades in songs like 'Erase & Rewind' or 'My Favourite Game', giving this a crossover indie sound which I find very appealing.
Add to this meandering counter-melodies in sweet piano flourishes and a heavier synth brought in at the drop and you have another great release for InfraProgressive. A different sound for Benya but testament to his ingenuity and finesse as a producer - another hit for sure.
This release comes with 6 additional remixes (a special mention for the Nuera remix) in a fantastic package you should definitely be getting your hands on when it hits the download stores!
