Concert Review: Duran Duran - All You Need is Now is Right on Time - Page 6
And they were running hot. Musically they were right on the money, from Simon Le Bon's amazing voice to Nick Rhodes' incredible ability to maneuver the band through music from the past and the present seamlessly. Consistently--and still throw in some bitch-slap, sharp techno-industrial beats just to make sure we were well and truly rocked. I could watch Duran Duran every night for the rest of my life and die with a smile on my face. They're just that good.
The show was sold out, but general admission--which means I had my choice of seats once they started playing. No one with a pulse would stay in a balcony seat when they could be on the floor rockin'. Except me, of course. I need the vantage. As I sat listening to the kids in the audience screaming along with every song Duran Duran played one thing became obvious immediately, they were rocking to "Rio" and the older music, but they were writhing and waving to the music from All You Need is Now, totally overcome. Lost in it.
They knew every song off the new album and their reactions proved that the lead off single, the title track, is just one amongst many of the strong songs on this album. All You Need is Now has a full arsenal of hits waiting to pop. Songs like "Being Followed," "Girl Panic!," "Leave a Light On" and "The Man Who Stole a Leopard" (which was not played during this concert), are guaranteed a place at the top of the charts, but more importantly, the music on All You Need is Now, as a whole, is made of the same gutsy, swaggering, more-than-a-little-cocky bravado that fueled Duran Duran's initial rise to fame--the songs on this album promise to hold their mettle over the long haul. They get in your head and stick there.
I love the entire album, from start to finish, but I must admit that "Being Followed" has done me in completely. I shamefully threw my writing tablet on the ground and jumped up as soon as the band started playing the opening notes. I stood there bobbing back and forth like... like the girls in the row in front of me--for the whole song! I write a lot of music reviews. I review a lot of concerts. Do you know how often I've actually been moved to lose my composure? It has never happened before. And it felt so good.

Duran Duran's live performance for this show was absolutely amazing. I haven't felt music that way in ages. All You Need is Now is currently locked on repeat on my computer, in my car, on my iPod. I'll never get tired of hearing it. No matter how deep the funk I'm struggling under I can put that album on and instantly feel good. Thank you Duran Duran, for making music that I can really feel, music that rocks me to the depths of my soul. That hasn't happened in a very long time.
