April Smith and the Great Picture Show Release Their Awesome Video for Terrible Things
If there's one thing you can say about the new video from April Smith and the Great Picture Show, "Terrible Things," it's that it promises to introduce this hot, new band in such a wicked way that they, as well as their unabashedly addictive song, will stick in your memory--just like wet mud to a shovel.
Which is actually kind of appropriate considering the theme of the video.
If the song "Terrible Things" sounds familiar it's probably because it has been in heavy rotation in the promo trailer for the Showtime television series Weeds for a while now. But the new video, conceptually created by the brilliantly noir April Smith herself, tells a tale of its own; the kind of series I'd love to see on Showtime; they really should be making her an offer. Now there's a thought to grind.
I'll be talking to April Smith shortly in an up-coming audio interview, look for it in the Technorati.com feature Interviews From The Edge. The inspiration and making of this video is definitely going to be a topic of our conversation. However, I don't plan on discussing it over dinner. Not surprisingly... no one is accepting her dinner invitations lately.
"Terrible Things" is the first release off of April Smith and the Great Picture Show's debut album, Songs for a Sinking Ship, but they've already been making waves across the endless ocean of break-out bands. Rolling Stone has included them in their list of "30 Bands to Watch" and the New York Post ranks April Smith in their "10 Musicians to Watch."
Watch and enjoy the video for April Smith and the Great Picture Show's "Terrible Things"... and don't forget to scream "Not Meatloaf again!" at the end.
