Guild Wars 2 Previews The City of Lion's Arch
While the gaming world is waiting for Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR), there's also another highly anticipated MMO they're waiting for: Guild Wars 2.
Guild Wars 2 is likely to trail behind the SWTOR release, but GW2 is due to go into alpha and beta testing this year. So far, ArenaNet isn't saying when the game will be released, just released "[w]hen it's finished." So there!
The game FAQ does say it will go into alpha and beta testing in 2011, so you could reasonably expect its release either late in 2011 or early 2012. That's a long time to wait.
In the meantime, GW2 is feeding their fans little tidbits of information about the game. They've talked about the classes, the game's design, and the various races. This week they gave their fans a look at the city of Lion's Arch.
Guild War fans everywhere probably felt a little twang of nostalgia at the mention of Lion's Arch. Lion's Arch is one of the principle cities in the original Guild Wars, so it's going to feel nice and comfortable to see an updated version in GW2.
In his May 11 blog update on Lion's Arch, Mathew Medina, one of the content designers, talks almost lovingly about his work on the city. It's a fascinating peek into how an MMO city is designed and built, complete with concept art and a city map.
