Battle: Los Angeles Review and Giveaway
On June 14th, the battle to take back Los Angeles hits home as the DVD/Blu-Ray for Battle: LA hits store shelves.
Battle: Los Angeles stars Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez. The story follows a Marine Staff Sargent (Eckhart) and his platoon who take on an enemy unlike any they've ever encountered when hostile alien invaders attack the planet in this epic sci-fi action film.
The action in this movie ranges from just all out badassery to moments of quiet intensity where you're gripping your armchair, waiting for the shit to hit the fan. However, overuse of the shaky cam almost ruins a few scenes. Usually this kind of filming style doesn't bother me, but they take it to a whole new level a few times. The aliens have a pretty cool and memorable design to both themselves and their technology, but we only really get to see a small variety of them throughout the film.
Aaron Eckhart does his usual acting thing and does it pretty well. While he's solid in this movie, most everyone is pretty bland and uninteresting. Honestly though, this has always been a problem for me when it comes to war movies. When the characters are decked out in fatigues, I can't tell them apart. They just become "Brooklyn Guy" or "Token Minority Dude."
There are a few solid moments of acting here and there though that will spice things up a bit. In fact, there are even a couple of "inspiring" speeches in the film, but the general dialog is so cheesy and half-baked. Watching Battle: LA is like going on a date with a really stupid girl who is kind of hot. She'll surprise you with moments of clarity, but then ruin it with a question like: "Why do they call it chilli if it's hot?"Continued on the next page
