Angelina Jolie Once Again Defends Daughter Shiloh's Androgynous Fashion Choices
Angelina's been on my mind this week, so it's only fitting that I address the latest controversy surrounding the globe-trotting supermom of six.
Angelina Jolie and partner Brad Pitt's first biological daughter, Shiloh, is at the center of debate regarding her fashion sense. In the last year we've seen her go from being a gorgeous flaxen- haired cherub to a trend-setting little man about town. So much so, even Angelina has been forced address her daughter's "unique" style.
Earlier in the year, she dubbed Shiloh's wardrobe choices as "Montenegro style" which baffled fashion experts. Now she's defending her parenting and Shiloh's personal "tom-boy chic:"
"I think she [Shiloh] is fascinating, the choices she is making. And I would never be the kind of parent to force somebody to be something they are not. I think that is just bad parenting."
Jolie makes a decent point, though one I personally would fight until my child was old enough to make a thoughtful choice with some perspective that only comes with age. As a parent of two young children, I can tell you neither of my kids gave a CRAP about what they wore at age 4, so it's a little dubious to assume that Shiloh is stomping her feet demanding to look like a miniature metrosexual Ken doll. Kids simply don't care about their appearance, especially their clothes, until they are a bit older. My youngest would be happy to wear his pajamas all day, every day, if that were an option. He would, however, have something to say if I tried to put a dress on him. HE KNOWS that's not cool.Continued on the next page
