Wanna Get Lucky? Read Wanna Get Lucky?
Wanna Get Lucky? is a murder mystery with a difference. It’s more chick lit than novel noir. It’s more about the life and feelings of the central character, Lucky O’Toole, than it is about the details of the murder. And it’s not at all gruesome. However, it does have its share of likely (yet innocent) suspects and colorful characters.
When we first meet Lucky O’Toole, we meet a work-addicted young woman who is carrying around a lot of anger. She is a customer relations executive at a Las Vegas casino. One night she sees a film clip on a television news program of a woman she knows tumble out of her casino’s helicopter and into another casino’s pirate lagoon. Accident or murder? Whichever, it could be a publicity nightmare for her employer.
While Lucky goes about the business of discovering who is responsible for the woman’s death, she deals with lusty feelings she believed were under control (or maybe dead), falling in love, a brothel-running mother, a sleazy ex-lover, a porn convention, and a double make-over (her own and her assistant’s). Readers who appreciate the best things in life will love Lucky—she works at the best casino in Vegas, lives in the best building, eats at the best restaurants, wears Chanel suits, Jimmy Choos, and diamonds, has a fabulous wardrobe, and loves her job (at which she is extremely well paid). If only she had a life…
Wanna Get Lucky? is murder done light, it’s sexy without being graphic, and author Deborah Coonts does a fine job of infusing it with humor—sometimes rueful, sometimes ironic, sometimes just plain funny. Readers looking for fanciful escapism or light summer reading will enjoy meeting Lucky O’Toole.
