On June 15, Disney California Adventure will open its brand new "Cars" themed attraction, Cars Land. Based on the wildly popular Disney-Pixar films, Cars (2006) and Cars 2 (2011), the new Cars Land is the culmination of a five-year, 12 acre expansion. Disney California Adventure now boasts eight themed lands.

Cars Land guests will explore the town of Radiator Springs and experience fun-filled rides built around favorite Cars characters: Luigi's Flying Tires, Mater's Junkyard Jamboree and Radiator Springs Racers. Themed shops and restaurants will help bring the feel of the Cars movies to life.

"We want guests to think they are on this great road trip and in a way, almost like they are going home," explained Kathy Mangum, executive producer of Cars Land. "Cars Land will feel very familiar in so many different ways. I can't tell you how many people have seen it and said 'I can't believe I'm in Anaheim.'"

Beyond Cars Land, Disney California Adventure visitors can stroll down Buena Vista Street and experience a 1920s Los Angeles that likely greeted Walt Disney as he stepped off the red trolley from Kansas City. Turn-of-the century nostalgia will surround guests as they follow in the footsteps of a young Walt Disney and ride the Red Car Trolleys which were inspired by Los Angeles' historic Pacific Electric Red Cars.

"The whole street comes alive to put you right there in the steps of Walt when he first stepped off the train in California, with all the optimism and opportunity he felt was there for him at the time," said Lisa Girolami, senior show producer and director for Walt Disney Imagineering.

Eager fans of the Cars movies and visitors to Disney California Adventure can expect long lines after the park's opening on Friday. But the new Cars Land will be a summertime treat well worth the wait.
