Hope For Haiti Now Telethon, Friday, January 22
George Clooney, Hollywood's favorite bachelor, has signed on with MTV to host a charity telethon to raise money to aid the relief efforts in Haiti. The Hope For Haiti Now telethon will air at 8pm ET, on several networks.
The event will be a star-studded gathering of Hollywood's elite and the music industry's biggest stars. Slated to perform from the Los Angeles stage are Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Stevie Wonder, and Taylor Swift, with a "group performance" featuring Keith Urban, Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow.
Wyclef Jean, the founder of the charitable organization Yele Hait and a Haiti native, will host from New York, with feature performances from Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson and Shakira.
CNN's Anderson Cooper, my favorite hero-journalist and silver fox, will be reporting in from Haiti.
From London, there will be performances and appearances by Rihanna, Bono, Coldplay, Jay-Z, and The Edge.
Hollywood has really stepped up to the plate on this one, with several of tinsel town's biggest names putting up huge donations. People Magazine states actress Sandra Bullock has donated $1 million, which matches donations made by George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Angelina Jolie. Model and wife to Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen has pledged $1.5 million, and Madonna, going a little on the cheap side, says she has given $250,000. What a miser!
