Celebrities Helping With Haiti Relief
Hollywood's elite are reaching out with their influence and wealth to do what they can to bring some comfort and relief to the Haitian people.
Wyclef Jean, musician, philanthropist and Haiti-native has used his influence to raise over $1million in aid dollars. Don't stop there Wyclef. Matt Damon's OneXOne Foundation has been helping Haiti's children since 2006 and is ramping up efforts to help during the disaster.
George Clooney has teamed up with MTV for a January 22 telethon to raise money for Haiti relief. Details forthcoming.
World champions Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have donated $1million to Doctors Without Borders to provide medical help to the Haitian people. Even I can't be cynical about this effort, nice move Brangelina.
Rumors are, even the embattled Tiger Woods is said to have donated money for a mobile hospital. Def Jam CEO Russell Simmons tweeted: “Tiger Woods is doing something AMAZING!!!! I heard he’s donating to send a cargo plane with a mobile hospital out there. Keep ur prayers high!”
Many celebrities have been tweeting, blogging and encouraging people to donate and help in whatever way possible.
As the grave nature of what is happening in Haiti continues to sink into the collective consciousness of the world, there will be other heroes of the celebrity kind who will step forward to help. It is at times like this that the human race can focus on the most important things that matter: helping one another. And this is especially true of those with the power, wealth and resources to make a real difference.
