Brittany Murphy's Cause of Death Determined
L.A. County coroners have determined the cause of actress Britney Murphy's death as accidental via "community acquired pneumonia," iron deficiency anemia, and multiple drug intoxication," according to TMZ.
Murphy passed away on December 20th at her L.A. home. Reports had stated she'd been sick and was suffering from flu-like symptoms leading up to her death. Murphy was discovered unconscious in the bathroom after a bout of vomiting. Police reports stated many prescriptions drugs were found in the home during their investigation, however, her husband Simon Monjack, has since said most of those were his.
TMZ is also citing sources close to the case as saying Brittany's death would have been "preventable" had she or family members sought medical attention for her flu symptoms. The prescriptions found her in system line up with what Monjack's since stated in interviews as drugs taken for menstrual cramps and anti-anxiety meds. Also found were over-the-counter cold medicines, all creating a toxic affect in her weakened, anemic system.
So very sad, but not terribly mysterious. Her husband, who has been scrutinized as a shady, Svengali like figure since their 2007 marriage, has stated he plans to sue Warner Brothers in a wrongful death suit for firing Murphy after they contracted her for voice work in the upcoming film Happy Feet II.
