The well paid and respected engineer daughter forced her gaze from the carpet. She still could not look at her mother. She was darting glances at the other women to see their reactions. The silence was both appealing and deafening. Women were transfixed listening to a mother come clean in front of her daughter; they all felt some tinge of their own relationship with their own mothers.
Let’s fast forward from this Friday evening to the closure session on Sunday morning. Evelyn heard her mother say simply, “I was a cold mother that was all I knew. I didn’t show leadership. Now, regardless of how awkward it is, I am going to be more openly loving.”
Did you ever wonder how one person can make a difference? SIMPLY TELLING THE TRUTH SIMPLY IS POWERFUL and might I add, GUTSY. Every adult daughter in that room was ready to go home and have a different dialogue with their own mothers or with their daughters.
