Leadership Lessons for Politician, Parent, Pundit
As we watch leaders — not really leaders, bullies — topple from power in the Middle East, wondering which country is next, we have a perfect opportunity to look at what is required for strong positive leadership at this critical time in the history of the world.
There is a convergence of two powerful and growing social forces:
1. Growing awareness that the present societal order does not serve individuals, communities, future generations nor the planet in the long run.
2. Social media helping us grasp a spreading vision of a free, harmonious, and sustainable world within our reach.
How we lead by parenting our young, how we lead by growing a business, a community, a country, how we lead by speaking out, is in the process of being reevaluated.
There is a valiant shift underway; we see pockets of change in value patterns that are splashed all over the daily news. Corruption is being eyeballed by individuals who are forming groups not willing to sit quietly nor to back down. Over and over the theme is gaining strength “the psychological barrier of fear is being faced and pushed down and stepped over.”
This is not just the visuals from countries where dictators are being flushed away; this is happening in the state capitols of our free nation where people are banging on drums, setting up sit–ins and saying “it will stop with me.”
The confusion that change brings always leads to a “chasm of chaos” where the old order is being transformed and the new order has not yet become defined. A measure of our confusion is that we continually want to solve problems at the same level as the problems themselves.
The underlying revolution that is awakening all around our globe is a transformation of human consciousness. The down and dirty dialogues required today must involve a reassessment of the basic picture of reality which is at the core of our systems of relationships, communication, parenting, education, business, science, and technology.Continued on the next page
