Samsung's Share in Indian Cell Phone Market Increases
The huge Indian cell phone market has been mostly a Nokia dominated market. Nokia commands almost one half of the cell phone market. But in recent years its dominance has come under serious threat from an aggressive Samsung infiltration into the market, emergence of other cellphone companies like Micromax and also the entry of BlackBerry and Apple into the market.
No other rival has proved to be as big a threat as Samsung. In the last one year itself Samsung has almost doubled it hold over the Indian market. This increase has been mainly sighted owing to its move of introducing affordable smartphones and touchscreen phones. The introduction of android based phones at moderate rates have also proved fruitful for them. It has become the most dominant seller of Android-based phones where it is facing competition from HTC.
With the advent of 3G into the Indian telecommunication environment, a large section of users will shift from 2G phone to smartphones with 3G. When this transition happens the market share is bound to get affected. It will be interesting to see who garners the advantage in this round, whether it is Samsung with its arsenal of Android phones or it is Nokia which is coming up with its Windows phones or Apple, BlackBerry and HTC create ripples with their increasing interest in the Indian market.
