Netflix Adds CW Network To Its Queue
Netflix US subscribers will soon be able to view full series episodes from the lineup of shows offered on The CW Television Network.
Netflix [NASDAQ: NFLX] and CW Network, a joint venture established between Warner Bros. Entertainment and CBS Corporation, have together signed a 4-year agreement which authorizes the online provider of videos, games, and purchased streaming of ad-free network television programming, to queue programs from the CW Network's schedule. The 4-year term allows Netflix to incorporate previous seasons of scripted series' that air on The CW from the CW's current schedule, through the 2014-15 season, along with the "licensed rights to stream more than 700 hours of previous-season episodes of The CW’s young-skewing dramas..." as reported in an article on Reuters. "These rights extend for four years after each series, current or future, ends its broadcast run on the network."
This, to the common viewer subscriber, means more "Vampire Diaries" ... uncut, and undisturbed.
You may find a new obsession, delivered to your account. The CW Network of programs offers series TV targeted for the female viewer, ages 18 - 34. A largely untapped market for network television. The CW is America's fifth broadcast network.
“This deal works across multiple levels for us,” says Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. He adds, “Not only will we be able to recruit new viewers for our shows through the powerful reach of Netflix, but it also makes The CW an even more attractive option to the creative community.” And, for Netflix, the opportunity to promote its subscription services on a more complete basis to a broader range of interests.
