Clarizen: Creating Workflow Solutions to Transcend Generations
While advances in workflow automation software aren’t exactly the type of things to whip the tech press into a frenzy, don’t tell that to Clarizen
’s CEO, Avinoam Nowogradski. Not only does he believe the latest iteration of his company’s software is the biggest thing to hit the digital world since GTA V,
but he’ll have you believing it too. Here’s what he told Technorati
in a recent interview:
1. Your latest software release non-withstanding, how would you characterize Clarizen’s approach? What kinds of problems do you think your users are encountering daily, and how does your company propose to solve them?
Clarizen’s approach is built on nothing less than our vision for the future of work. As we see it, the way people work today is broken. Up until now, the connection between unstructured communication and structured processes has been missing and each function has been operating in silos.
Traditional project management software has failed to solve this fundamental problem – as it hasn't be able to connect collaboration and work execution in a single tool that serves the needs of professional project managers and knowledge workers alike. In order for an enterprise to create operational excellence, they need a unified tool to energize and empower high-performance teams. It’s time for a new, and better way to get work done and time to arm the ‘new projector manager’ with a tool that manages work.
2. How is Clarizen's approach different to other companies in your field? To what extent is this approach shaped by the "Clarizen DNA" concept you mentioned during our interview?
At Clarizen, we feel that the key is connecting social collaboration to tasks and projects, so team members have all of the context they need to successfully complete their initiatives. Connecting the unstructured communication and the structured processes has to be centralized in order to drive enterprise efficiency. Clarizen is the first and only solution to combine this social engagement with powerful project management. Or as we like to say, for the first time, social goes to work.
The benefit to the enterprise is an ecosystem that is inherently supportive of innovation. It ensures that all employees are highly aware of their role in achieving a specific goal, and feel empowered to participate. And it ensures that all activities are aligned to goals.
3. Could you explain to me how your company's 5.4 software currently works to address the gap between work and collaboration?
Earlier this year, Clarizen v5.4 won the CODiE as the best project management solution. One reason was our InterAct email engine, which laid the foundation for our social collaboration capabilities in v6. With InterAct, team members can tie email communications directly to tasks and projects, so they can keep up with issues and discussions.
They can create tasks, kick off projects, updates status and participate in conversations, all from their email. Our previous versions focused on configurability, process automation and integration with other systems, so you can set up your work flows and business rules to fit your internal processes.
4. How does it appeal to geographically dispersed companies and ones that have a large workforce of millennials?
For the first time in modern history, four generations are working together in organizations, with varied skills and located around the world. Clarizen’s cloud based model offers unique advantages, allowing organizations to collaborate both internally and externally with partners, suppliers and customers - regardless of location and focus on successfully managing projects rather than worry about purchasing, installing and maintaining software or hardware.
Plus as enterprises become more remote and communication more fragmented, Clarizen’s iPhone, Android and iPad apps enable mobile workforces to get all the information they need from Clarizen at the critical moment they need it. Users have the ability to collaborate, review their work (tasks and issues), report on progress and timesheets, and even submit new work items all from the field.
5. From the demonstration you gave me, your latest update (version 6.0) seems to combine workflow, collaboration and task management, all in a social timeline-style format. How do you think this will revolutionize the way we work?
Clarizen v6 was designed from the ground up to support the requirements of today’s changing modern workplace. It was also designed around the tenets of participation, alignment and awareness. We wanted to empower individuals in a way that has never been done before. By connecting social context with processes, we give a voice to each team member. It is that voice and that transparency that will ultimately lead an organization to operational excellence.
6. Do you think this technology will be more readily adopted by newer, more agile startups and tech companies? Or do you believe it will also resonate with larger companies that have more deeply entrenched processes?
Today we are seeing companies from the Fortune 500, down to angel-funded start ups building high performance teams by using Clarizen’s solutions. The beauty of Clarizen is that, no matter the company size, vertical industry, or a user’s job function, it provides a more efficient and productive way to work – or simply, a better way to get the job done.
