Girl With The Cane
The title "Girl with the Cane" comes from the fact that it's largely how I've come to be known in the small town in which I live. My blog is about my experience of acquiring several disabilities after a stroke in my early 20's and how my recovery process changed me and how I relate to the world. Living with disabilities myself has given me a unique perspective on the work that I do with people with disabilities, which was a field of interest long before my stroke. I feel very passionate about the struggle that people with all sorts of "differences" go through as they try to build lives where they can feel welcome and participate fully in their communities, and will talk about their stories as well as my own. I do like to keep things light as light as I can, but my sense of humour does edge toward the dark side. Don't try to read too much significance into my name, because there really isn't any. All I could really say about it is that I'm evil in the nicest sense of the world.
