  1. Doctor Who Macros

    http://phillsacre.me.uk/2008/07/03/doctor-who-macros/

For those of you not in the know (which included me up until a couple of days ago), a ‘Macro’ is apparently a new word for images which have got text superimposed on them - usually for humurous effect. So, basically captions, except written on the image. …

  2. The Beast with a Billion Backs

    http://phillsacre.me.uk/2008/07/02/the-beast-with-a-billion-backs/

Last night we had a few people round to watch “The Beast with a Billion Backs”, the new Futurama film (it’s only just been released on DVD in the UK). It was brilliant! Incredibly random, more so than “Bender’s Big Score”, but very funny in places. Some lines were absolutely hilarious. …

  3. Food & Drink Festival, Doctor Who, and Top Gear

    http://phillsacre.me.uk/2008/06/30/food-drink-festival-doctor-who-and-top-gear/

The title says it all really! On Friday evening went to help out with ‘21′, the Fordham youth group, which was good fun. On Saturday morning, we went to Colchester Food & Drink festival in Castle Park. …

Phill Sacre often writes reviews of the episodes of the sci-fi TV show Torchwood. While we have had some fantastic Sci-fi programmes in Britain, most hi-budget science fiction programmes seem to be American these days, so I too was excited to see a new British science-fiction series.

A night out on the town. With a symphony orchestra.

    http://www.minipix.co.uk/wordpress/?p=421

There is definitely something to be said for an evening of culture and entertainment.  A few weeks ago I went with Phill to St Botolph’s Church in Colchester to listen to, amongst other things, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.  Phill wrote a summary of the concert

2008 Predictions - More Ubuntu users than OS X and more pre-installed Linux Desktops than Macs

    http://commandline.org.uk/more/predictions-more-linux-than-m...

By Macs, I mean real general-purpose personal computers, not iPhones, iPods, iTVs or whatever other fashionable gadget that Apple will sell in the tens of millions and Apple will no doubt make more money than ever at that. So Phill Sacre in his blog dug up this link. Assuming I am reading this correctly, Apple sold an impressive 7 million Macs in the last four quarters recorded. This sounds about right, if every Apple devotee buys a new Mac every 3 years on average, then we get back to 22 million

    Beware Hippos

    http://iangrey.org/2008/01/02/beware-hippos/

The last few days, Karen has been doing a WASGIJ. (It hasn’t ruined our life yet). A WASGIJ is a backwards jigsaw with a difference. The picture on the box isn’t the scene, instead it is the complimentary scene that the people on the scene would be seeing. So if the picture on the box is of the bride, the groom and the minister,

licence and the Creative Commons Attribution-Share-Alike licence compatible. Having the two the biggest licences in free culture become compatible allows far more remixing, combining and creative innovation with shared community content, really cool! Phill has written a Battleships game in Javascript, I totally slaughtered the enemy's navy, time after time, so the robot hoards are not going to be invading England by boat any time soon. I just discovered mod_wsgi, which can host any Python App written to the WSGI standard. It can even run in daemon

Mac backup solutions that don’t cost the earth

t have to be complicated, time-consuming or expensive. As long as you have the right tools to hand. Curiously, two of my friends have recently been talking about similar things on their blogs: Phill gave some excellent advice on staying safe on the internet
