  1. Today, I Miss Spain

    http://blogs.courant.com/travel_columnists_leblanc/2008/09/today-i-miss-spain.html

The trouble with travel, or maybe the blessing of it, is that some days I feel a yearning to be in a particular place where I am not. Today it's Spain, particularly Cordoba, where the husband I spent too little time before we had to return to Madrid, the airport and home. …

  2. Norwegian Cruise Canceled

    http://blogs.courant.com/travel_columnists_leblanc/2008/09/norwegian-cruise-canceled.html

Norwegian Cruise Line has canceled a Caribbean cruise next month on the Norwegian Pearl to fix a problem with the propulsion system, according to Cruise Critic. While this is rare, it does happen from time to time. When ships require unscheduled repairs for mechanical problems or collision damage, there's no extra ship to replace it. …

  3. United Backs Down, Mostly

    http://blogs.courant.com/travel_columnists_leblanc/2008/09/united-backs-down-mostly.html

United Airlines has changed its mind about charging for meals in coach on transatlantic flights, but not about scaling back its food service in business class on domestic flights. The business class thing wouldn't seem to be a very big deal. United has a business class on only about 16 domestic transcontinental flights a day. …

Guide to cheap airline tickets, hotels, reviews, cars, cruises and vacations

on many types of tickets. (AA didn't charge a fee before.) US Airways has chosen to charge a $25 quick-ticketing fee to customers who redeem their frequent-flier miles for travel within 14 days of their departure. Delta isn't charging a fee, but it is watering down the value of its miles by raising the minimum number of miles you need to earn to redeem for tickets for many types of tickets. In light of these changes, are credit cards that promise free flights worth it? Fortunately, long-time personal finance writer Ron Lieber has

    AND AWAY WE GO…

    http://brooksfile.wordpress.com/2008/08/12/and-away-we-go/

’ve been meaning to point this out, because those of us who like to travel need all the help we can get these days (yes, even those of us who “married into” the travel business). But Jeanne’s latest post hits home.  The Dearly Beloved doesn’t work for US Airways, but she does toil for another major airline.  With the pilots tucked away in the cockpit, the flight attendants are on the front line of every flight.

Alas, he's right on the mark (as always). I discovered air-fare god Rick Seaney's killer U.S. Domestic Airline Fee Chart, which should be required reading for anyone buying a domestic ticket these days. And I learned from Jeanne Leblanc's Coach Class that a row of seats broke loose on a United Airlines flight and slid into the passengers in the next row. Jeanne points out a FlyerTalk thread in which one FT member joked, "Well clearly it's their own fault .. the passengers in that row refused to

Ryanair: If You Buy from a 3rd Party Site, We May Cancel Your Ticket

t affect most people - Ryanair says that less than 1% of its tickets are sold in this manner - but it’s rare to see an airline retaliate against consumers when they’re unhappy with 3rd party distribution (for example, American is now taking Kayak to court for how it displays their fares).

According to US Airways policy, coffee and tea are $1, but bottled drinking water is $2. So, can you order tea and ask them to "hold the tea" and save a $1? Shouldn't you be able to get a boring old glass of water for free? Jeanne Leblanc from the Hartford Courant thinks so: It's hard to understand why the laws that require free potable water in such public places as movie theaters and amusement parks don't seem to apply to airlines. But then, it shouldn't have to be a law. It should just be a matter of common

    Airline Charges for water!

[drinking from the sink is] just not classy,” a US Airways spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal. So what do you think? Should there be non-fancy water for anyone who is thirsty? Should free water be available to coach passengers? ( polls) US Airways’ Fee Too Far [Courant] Starting Today, No More Free Water on US Air [WSJ Middle Seat Blog] (Photo: caseywest ) ShareThis
