Different types thrive in different soil and climates. Do your research. I love a white rose named John F. Kennedy. 2. Start early: plant roses in early spring (or even late autumn). Use dormant roses, rather than transplanting entire rose bushes. 3. Sunlight. Roses require 5-6 hours of sunlight, especially morning light. Plan your rose garden accordingly.
