    http://dearauthor.com/wordpress/2008/05/09/my-first-sale-ce-murphy-there-i-was-with-the-chocolate-chip-cookies/

I first heard of C.E. Murphy when Luna publishing put out Urban Shaman. It was an intriguing (and actually not very romantic which is a huge deal for me) urban fantasy. Over time (cough 3 years cough), Murphy has penned 10 novels and now has a million words in print. …

  2. REVIEW: Stranded with a Spy by Merline Lovelace

    http://dearauthor.com/wordpress/2008/05/08/review-stranded-with-a-spy-by-merline-lovelace/

Dear Mrs. Lovelace, When I’ve had a bunch of disappointing books in a row, I know I can turn to you to pull me out of my rut. Whether it’s a historical (which you don’t seem to write much anymore) or contemporary or romantic suspense, you generally hit the spot and give me something readable. …

  3. Eliminating Returns May Reduce Waste but Might Also Reduce Sales

    http://dearauthor.com/wordpress/2008/05/08/eliminating-returns-may-reduce-waste-but-might-also-reduce-sales/

HarperCollins is experimenting with a no return policy. According to the GalleyCat article yesterday, 31% of books printed are returned to the publishers. Removing the right of return would reduce environmental waste. However, no returns will likely result in fewer books ordered by the chain stores. …

felt no overwhelming reason to comment, because people with different points of view and different agendas will have different opinions and perspectives, and they are all valid (duly noted exception for criminal behaviour, of course) Then Emmy offers this: Hate it when people make sweeping generalizations. What is romance? Does porn have to be two strangers oofing in a one night stand? Can’t two people in a monogamous relationship who love each other deeply have hot monkey sex too? Why can’t that

    The Not-so-deep Thoughts

Winner of the Spring Cleaning contest is Cherie J! Cherie, please email me at ann @ annbruce.net (no spaces) and let me know which email addy I can send the Amazon GC. Also, in light of Amazon’s disappointing response regarding the Deborah MacGillivray stalking and harassing of a reviewer, if you want a GC from Barnes and Noble instead, I can do that, too. And changes will be coming to the site. Stay tuned.

    Grimspace, Ann Aguirre

    http://jenniesbooklog.blogspot.com/2008/05/grimspace-ann-agu...

Author: Ann Aguire Published: 2008, Ace Category: Science Fiction Rating: 5.5/10 This book has gotten a lot of buzz online since it came out. It seemed like everyone loved it (for example, an A review at DA), and then I read the AAR review, which gave it a D and tells readers to not read it, it's that bad. Of course that immediately made me dig it out of the TBR, to see how people could have such opposite reactions to the same book.

    Three Stories About Amazon

    http://mayareynoldswriter.blogspot.com/2008/05/three-stories...

I will admit to a perverse pleasure in the fact that Amazon is threatening to sue the State of New York for charging it sales tax on online sales. Jane over at Dear Author wrote last Thursday supporting Amazon's position. You can read her post here. I disagree with Jane. Congress let Internet retailers off the hook on sales tax while they were growing. Now those businesses are mature. If they're using local representatives in a state to help their business via click-throughs, they need to pay
