So yeah, another Tour, another doping scandal (or three). Saunier Duval has elected to drop its sponsorship in light of the recently uncovered doping habits of Ricardo Ricco and Leonardo Piepoli. Which is, on many levels, understandable enough. But as anyone who saw the photos of the Saunier Duval …

Midweek Makeover: Gimme Some Skin, My Friend
http://blacknell.net/dynamic/2008/07/23/midweek-makeover-gimme-some-skin-my-friend/I probably don’t have a lot in common with John McCain, but I bet we both dig the Andrews Sisters. However, I came by that fandom through my grandmother (and mother) while he probably heard this when it was still a hot hit on the radio in 1941: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIFN13-a1iA And …

Keeping Tempo: 7-24-08
http://www.gamjams.net/2008/07/keeping-tempo-7.htmlDefinition of Teamwork with the understanding that she knows what she's talking about. In Arlington, or able to get there by 5pm tonight? Why not hit a cyclist-specific happy hour to watch Tour highlights from Stage 18? Blacknell has the deets. The folks behind the Bike Rack Cycling Team have taken the lead on an important, and sadly topical, initiative - Cyclist and Pedestrian Accident Awareness. Do check it out - bookmark it, add it to your RSS feed or your iGoogle page or whatever.

Bad at Biking?
http://www.thenewgay.net/2008/07/bad-at-biking.htmlcute guy in a red shirt slowed his 10 Speed down to hand me a copy of WABA's pocket guide to DC bike laws. Later I saw him at City Bikes and thanked him about a million times. I guess the main reason for this post is to remind everyone to be careful. Alice Swanson was killed at Connecticut and R last Tuesday because a garbage truck didn't notice her. Neither of my accidents would have happened if I had been a car, because then the drivers would've actually acknowledged me as having an equal stake in the road.

VIVIAN J. PAIGE
http://blog.vivianpaige.comEvisceration of the 4th amendment - at the hands of Democrats. A shameful day. For those playing catchup, here is a nice summary of the impact of the FISA vote. (h/t Blacknell.net) The final vote was 69-28 in favor of the bill. Among those voting against was Senator Hillary Clinton. Her statement on this is below the fold.

The Practical Cyclist's Blog
http://blog.thepracticalcyclist.orgA high school classmate of Ms Swanson posted this comment on a DC-area blog: I went to high school with Alice. She was the sweetest, most kind person I ever knew. She was also incredibly bright. She cared deeply about people, the environment, all things good. She lived her life to better humanity. From what I

Cyclist killed in DC
http://www.luckywhitegirl.com/2008/07/cyclist-killed-in-dc.h...It makes me really, really angry when CARS run us over! I just found out that a girl was killed this morning biking to work (she worked at a non-profit --I would've liked her). A fucking garbage truck ran her over. This blogger reflects my sentiments exactly and turned me on to this site: Yield to Life. We have to do more to raise awareness of non-cars on our nation's roadways. Tell. Everyone. The cyclist you save might be someone you know!
