Hubby: Who? Me: Serena’s best friend. Hubby: Blair. Me: Yes, Blair. He’s rumoured to be going out with Blair. Hubby: I want to go out with Serena. Me: You can’t. She’s going out with Penn Badgley. Hubby: Can you tell me when they break up? Then I’ll go after her. Me: Okay. Hubby: (Pauses) What’s her name again? xxx I knew it. He’s just as superficial as I am.

  The romance of Gossip Girl stars Blake Lively and Penn Badgley was met with parental approval of sorts from Matthew Settle, who plays Penn’s on-screen dad, Rufus. It’s only appropriate that actress Kelly Rutherford, who plays Lily, Lively’s mom, gives the couple a thumbs up too. “I think they’re so lovely,” Rutherford said Thursday in Beverly Hills. She says Blake Lively and Penn Badgley benefited by experiencing Gossip Girl’s soaring popularity together as their chemistry gelled. “To be able to go through this ride and success and to have somebody to do that with and share that experience, I think they’re both very fortunate,” Rutherford said.
