Senior Search Engineer
We are looking for an extremely capable individual who has a strong background in back-end systems development and who has either experience with or strong interest in search technology. Technologies we are using: Linux, Java, Lucene (index design, creation, search optimization), REST, XML, Linux, RSS aggregation, BDB, MySQL.
A strong software architecture background is required, as our infrastructure has strict availability, performance and result quality requirements. Scalability is a key issue for us, so demonstrated experience in a clustered server environment will be highly regarded. You should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, good development practices, and a relevant degree.
In addition to your strong back-end development skills, you have a theoretical and practical background in search technology (Lucene experience a plus), and, ideally, experience with high update rates and/or low fetch-to-serve turnarounds. You are familiar with a variety of search relevancy measures and are able to develop new and/or hybrid measures tailored to specific business requirements. Experience with content analysis and link/graph analysis to generate meta-data useful to the search engine will be extremely useful. If you don’t have specific Lucene experience, then you are excited to learn something new and a proven ability to dig into and master new things. Senior Engineer — Ad Server
We are looking for an extremely capable individual who has a strong background in back-end systems development and has applied their knowledge and experience in ad serving and targeting technology. You will be working on a team that is combining real-time search and data aggregation techniques that are used by millions of people worldwide. Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Product and Development teams to define and prioritize product features and enhancements.
- Assess the feasibility, effort, costs, and timelines for development as appropriate.
- Analyze, design, develop, test, troubleshoot and document complex data systems that may involve text analysis, content analysis, link/graph analysis to generate meta-data useful to the targeting engine
- Create technical specifications and drive issues to resolution incorporating current standards and best practices.
- Work closely with the Operations Team in the definition of standard run book policies, monitoring, and management of the systems you develop.
- Assist in the design of the operating tools to ensure high availability, accuracy, and reliability of the systems
Requirements:

Senior Application Engineer
As a key member of the Media & Syndication development team, you will be responsible for critical technology initiatives that will have a visible and immediate impact on millions of web users every month. Responsibilities include working closely with other engineering team members and interacting with product, design, content and business users to lead and deliver engineering products in an exciting fast-paced environment. Role expectations will include:
- Working with the Program Manager to identify business requirements and design product specifications
- Creating high-level and detailed technical designs and vetting them with the larger Product Development team
- Playing an active role in implementing and providing feedback on new processes
- Providing technical guidance to other software engineers
- Implementing new product features using PERL, PHP and SQL in an Apache/Linux environment
- Enhancing and maintaining existing product capabilities
- Developing and updating product documentation
- Employing technical expertise in helping team members overcome technical problems
- Adhering to release/project schedule and milestones
Requirements:
- Expert level PERL/PHP skills are required with demonstrated ability to resolve complex problems
- Proficient in the design of features, especially products that need to be fitted into an existing framework
- Experience in a full product development cycle
- SQL development experience
- Knowledge of Database performance, HTML, XML, Java, is a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills due to the dynamic nature of discussions with other engineering and product teams

Entry PHP Web Developer
We are looking for an extremely capable Entry PHP Web Developer to join our front-end team. In this role, you’ll work primarily on the team responsible for the user experience with other Web Development Engineers, Designers and Product Managers in a development environment that is extremely collaborative. You must be able to work in a fast-paced environment focused on user-centered, iterative design and development cycles.
- Developing and maintaining the Technorati web application by writing well-organized, object-oriented PHP5.
- Writing standards-compliant complex HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Developing production-level code as well as proof-of-concepts and prototypes.
- Creating work that is fully cross browser compliant.
- Enjoying taking ownership of individual projects and collaborating on parallel projects.
- Working primarily with PHP, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax and procedural and object-oriented design, dynamic content retrieval, performance optimization, unit testing, debugging, state management, HTTP, and Apache.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of code optimization and software design principles, and have a passion and demonstrated experience in UI design and development.
- Ablity to exercise innovation in support of UI design and heuristics through your expertise in client development to enhance the overall user experience.
